The Flag of the Republic of Belarus (an official governmental symbol of Belarus , one of the national symbols of the Belarusian people ) was formally legitimated on June 7,1995, following the result of a referendum voted on by Belarusian people.

The National Flag is a rectangular cloth consisting of two longitudinal stripes: red upper stripe and green lower stripe that are two-thirds and one-third of the flag width respectively. The flag’s ratio of width to length is 1:2.  A vertical red-on white Belarusian decorative pattern , which occupies one-ninth of the flag’s length ,is placed against the flagstaff. The flag is fixed on a flagstaff painted golden (ochre).

The red color  -  is the color of the victorious banners of Grunwald victory of the Belarusian regiments over the Crusaders .This color banners divisions of the Red army and the Belarusian partisan brigades that liberated Belarusian land from the Nazi invaders and their lackeys . Green represents hope and rebirth of spring; it is the color of Belarusian forests and fields. White  - the embodiment of spiritual purity. In the ornament of the flag are used the characters of Agriculture - rhombs, the oldest graphic variations which are known by the archaeologists from their finds on the territory of Belarus.


The National Emblem of the Republic of Belarus

In the center of the National Emblem of the Republic of Belarus sits a green outline of Belarus, superimposed over the rays of a golden sun. The sun is partially covered by a globe, with the landmass in purple and waters in blue. Stalks of wheat, superimposed with flowers are lining the left and right sides of the emblem . Clovers adorn the left wheat stalks; flax flowers adorn the right. Wrapped around the wheat stalks is a red and green ribbon bearing the colors of the flag of Belarus; the ribbon meets at the base of the emblem ,where the name Republic of Belarus is inscribed in gold in the Belarusian language. At the top of the emblem there is a five-pointed red star.
